There may be eight million people in New York, but somehow a pretty good cross section of them ends up in your subway car. This tray captures that wonderfully crowded mix of personalities—New Yorkers and visitors from around the world, commuters and characters, people reading, talking, standing, sitting, spilling things, and generally trying not to make eye contact.

Perfect For: New Yorkers, subway riders, people-watchers, NYC transplants, and anyone who knows the best characters in the city usually aren’t above ground.

Pairs Well With: Coffee and a bagel, keys and loose change, your MetroCard memorabilia, and stories that begin with “You’ll never believe what I saw on the train today.

What people are saying

“BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE THE SUBWAY SCENE MADE ME LAUGH, BUT NOW IT LIVES ON MY COFFEE TABLE HOLDING KEYS AND CHANGE. A TINY DAILY REMINDER THAT THERE’S TRULY NO PEOPLE-WATCHING LIKE NYC PEOPLE-WATCHING.”

— @missedmytransfer

“THE LONGER YOU LOOK AT THIS TRAY, THE MORE NEW YORK YOU NOTICE. IT’S CROWDED, WEIRD, FUNNY, AND SOMEHOW EVERYBODY FITS. BASICALLY THE SUBWAY IN CERAMIC FORM.”

— Rachel M.

“IT SOMEHOW CAPTURES AN ENTIRE SUBWAY RIDE WITHOUT MAKING A SOUND. EVERY TIME SOMEONE COMES OVER, THEY PICK IT UP AND START POINTING OUT WHICH PASSENGER THEY ARE.”

— @uptownlocal
